The Nature Conservancy a leading conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people seeks a CHACO ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Chaco Environmental Coordinator provides technical and policy leadership to TNC and partners to increase the area under effective conservation in the Chaco ecoregion. The main objective of the Chaco Coordinator is to increase the acreage of public protected areas (national, provincial, municipal) and consolidating existing ones. The candidate may also be required to provide support to indigenous communities to improve the management of indigenous lands. We are looking for a candidate that is capable of working with non-traditional approaches to conservation such as designing and improving financial and legal instruments aimed to achieve conservation at scale and establish private-public partnerships for the creation and management of protected areas. The candidate is expected to coordinate the implementation of the Regional Public Goods (RPG) project that is being implemented by a consortium of partners in Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina. This RPG project is financed by the Inter-American Development Bank and the Chaco Coordinator will be the primary point of contact with the Bank on TNC’s behalf. It is paramount that the candidate demonstrate the ability to successfully fundraise with multi-laterals, bi-laterals, governments and the private sector. The Chaco Coordinator will report to the Director of the Central Savannas Conservation Program and will work closely with the External Affairs Team. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED: a.. Candidates must have an advanced degree in business, law, economics, natural resources management, policy or related field (combined with application to conservation); b.. At least 5 years of combined working experience in the Chaco of Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina; c.. Track record of successfully fundraising with governments, multi-laterals, bi-laterals and the private sector; d.. Familiarity with economic, fiscal, financial and legal mechanisms that although are not traditional to conservationists may prove useful to help governments create new public areas and consolidate existing ones; e.. Excellent knowledge of the legal framework, fiscal incentives and economic instruments that supports or challenges the conservation of public and private lands in Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina; f.. Excellent skills on project planning, monitoring and evaluation; g.. Talent for coordination, pulling together moving parts and common sense h.. Clear thinker, planner and communicator; capable of expressing ideas concisely and simply to a range of audiences. i.. Ability to influence discussions and behavior of peers by quality of thinking and skill in handling relationships. j.. Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English and Spanish; k.. Familiarity with the political and cultural environment of Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina; l.. Demonstrated knowledge of the functional needs and practices of the pertinent region; m.. Marine Ecologist: marine mammal (english) Applications are invited for job position (9 months) at the Centre de Recherche sur les Cétacés – Marineland in Antibes, France. Candidate: Applicants should have a minimum qualification of a Master degree or equivalent, preferably on marine ecology with experience in marine mammals. The candidate should be highly motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Applicants should have good computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power point and GIS (preferably ArcView) and be familiar with some of these domains: statistical analysis, abundance estimation, GIS, modelling distribution, oceanography, remote sensing. Experience in cetaceans surveys at sea is an advantage. French language is not compulsory, otherwise English will be needed. Duration and Salary: Duration is 9 months.
